I'm Roman
From Chalkboards to Lab Benches
My university career began in September 2019, right before the pandemic. Initially, I was accepted into the highly competitive Honours Bachelors in Computer Science program, where I was fortunate to experience one full in-person semester. Following three semesters online in CS, I realized that my true passion lay with physics. After spending countless hours in the lab and undergoing years of technical training, I am now ready to apply my knowledge of physics, mathematics, chemistry, and engineering to solve real-world problems.
The man behind the lab coat
Hi there! My name is Roman and I am entering my final year (fingers crossed) of an Honours Bachelor of Science in Physics. Based out of Ottawa, ON, I am open to research opportunities across a wide range of disciplines.
My love of science began, like most, in early childhood. Being a huge fan of science fiction movies and characters like Iron Man and Spider-Man inspired me to explore the science and engineering aspects of serving others in my community. Eager to learn as much as possible, I dove straight in and started teaching myself how to code at 14. This began my love of programming and Computer Science, which eventually granted me the opportunity to engage with more than 200 children over four years as the Lead Coding Instructor for STEM-based summer camps at Code Ninjas.

Along my journey of software development, I discovered that I wanted to gain a deeper, more fundamental understanding of how my keystrokes made the graphics on my screen move. This commenced my lower-level understanding of the hardware, digital systems, and architecture of my computer. I started tinkering with the Arduino microcontroller platform and learned how to make circuits and control voltages to interface between the physical and digital worlds. But still, I wanted to go deeper. Physics was the answer to my quarrel. It gave me the most fundamental understanding of not only how the technology we use every day works, but the universe as an integrated ever ever-evolving system.
Although my love of Physics burned brightly, I struggled with mathematics earlier on in my academic career. Determined not to let my fears and doubts overcome me, I had to develop a stronger mind - one that would be able to tackle any obstacle, problem set, or exam in front of me. It wasn't easy, and I failed several times along the way. I had to become relentless in pursuit of my goal and dreams - to become someone who serves others to the utmost of my ability using the tools and skills that only an education in Physics provides.
I owe all of my success thus far to the people in my life who have supported me, and that starts at home. My parents have always instilled good values and morals and fostered an attitude that hard work is the key to achieving anything one desires. My Fiancée Erica, currently in the process of completing her Honours BSc in Mathematics, continues to inspire me to attain academic excellence and supports me in all of my endeavors. My labmates, Evren and Sam, along with my Professors, Dr. Godin and Dr. Desgreniers, have provided me with the best environment possible to learn and expand my experimental skills, to which I owe them a great deal of gratitude.
With plans of attending Graduate school (obtaining a Masters degree, then a PhD), I am ready and excited to explore all research opportunities available to me. I am seeking Professors who would be willing to supervise my Graduate school journey (Masters and Ph.D)
